The town of Duxbury was awarded a second reimbursement check from the federal CARES Act.
The Plymouth County Commissioners are in charge of a $90 million dollar fund to help towns with unexpected expenses due to the coronavirus.
Town Manager Rene Read says the first check they received was for $80,000. This one is for $155,000.
“I have to extend my sincerest gratitude to our Finance Director John Adams, he’s been on point with this all along, and our Town Accountant Carrie Mazerolle who has also been extremely helpful in coordinating all the efforts of the department heads and making sure all the “i’s” are dotted and the “t’s” are crossed,” said Read. “I mean, we’re submitting applications that the county is telling us are some of the best they’ve seen. That’s helpful for a number of reasons, to have an excellent team because we get our checks turned back to us quicker. It’s worked out beautifully.”
In Duxbury, they purchased PPE equipment for employees and retro-fitted office spaces with plexiglass.
Funds were used for Town Meeting, which was held in the Middle and High School gyms, the Cafeteria, and the courtyard.
“The County did well in recognizing that the communities were going to have that question of immediacy of need. As things started to unfold in early March, we saw which way things were heading, then we didn’t know what we were going to do for funding,” said Read. “The County stepped right in, and by mid-May we were making applications to the County and funds were coming back by June. It’s been terrific.”
The Commissioners delivered checks to Rockland, Hull, Bridgewater, Lakeville, Mattapoisett, Pembroke, and Plympton this week.
