The Halifax Special and Annual Town Meetings have been continued to August 29th, though one more recess may be issued.
Town Administrator Charlie Seelig says they’ve gotten information on state aid for the new fiscal year.
“Their expectation is that they will be able to level-fund state aid for Fiscal ’21 for both Chapter 70 and for what’s called unrestricted local aid,” said Seelig. “Those two line items in the cherry sheet, which is the information the state sends about local aid. Both in terms of revenues and assessments, comes to about 95 % of the money that the town receives from the state.”
Currently the town is operating under a 1/12 budget until a budget is approved by voters at Town meeting.
“We’re going to see whether we can move forward with the budget process,” said Seelig. “We had already postponed the Town Meeting to August 29th, we may do that one more time to September 12th.”
The Special and Annual Town Meetings are planned for the Elementary School. The gym and multi-purpose room would have social distancing measures in place.
The Selectmen voted to keep the quorum of 100 people.
