In Kingston, the Board of Selectmen formed a search committee and hired a firm to help find a new Town Administrator.
The Board voted unanimously to hire Community Paradigm Associates to help with the search. Recently, the firm helped Pembroke select a Town Manager and a Town Administrator in Rockland. In July, former Town Administrator Tom Calter and Kingston agreed to part ways.
The Board voted to form a seven-member search committee made up of a Selectman, three residents, a Finance Committee member, the Town Clerk and Treasurer. An alternate member would be selected in the event a voting member could no longer participate.
“We want people across the town to feel welcome to apply in this process,” said Selectman Chair Jess Kramer. “We want to really be inclusive and for this to be a transparent process, so that we end up with a process that we’re all pleased with.”
Applications will be on the town website and can be submitted to the Selectmen. The deadline to apply for the search committee was set for Thursday, August 27.
The board voted to add a lottery system to ensure fairness.
“What’s really important in this process is no one being able to say we hand-picked ‘X,Y, and Z’ to be put onto this committee,” said Kramer. “I think that we should have an open process so that anyone who wants to apply, can apply, and that we do a lottery to draw for those seats so that everyone feels like they had an equal chance to participate.”
The Selectmen will conduct the lottery at the next meeting on September 1.
