A special election was held in Kingston for a vacated seat on the Board of Selectmen.
With unofficial results, Sheila Vaughn was elected with 880 votes. Peter Boncek had 325 votes. There were 105 write-ins.
“I think this Board is going to be really strong. I think that we’re going to work very cohesively as a team,” said Vaughn. “I think we’re all looking forward to working together to make this town great, and really be able to dig deep into what is going to make this town thrive.”
Vaughn says a focus will be on commerce, the environment, and town budgets amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It’s really important for everybody, and we need to work as a team and not be divisive,” she added. “I think it’s important to sit there, listen, and debate, but to work together as a team.”
Vaughn says she’s appreciative of the support and that it was a good race with Boncek.
“I thought it was really nice to run against him,” said Vaughn. “I thought it was really great. We had a great month, we really had a peaceful time.”
Vaughn was sworn in and will fill the one-year term after Tammy Murray resigned from the Board in April.
