MA: State Officials Urging Public to Avoid Holding Large Events, New Travel Order Begins

by | Aug 1, 2020 | News

During Governor Charlie Baker’s COVID-19 Update Secretary of Health and Human Services Marylou Sudders said that they are urging people to avoid holding large events where proper safety protocols aren’t observed.

Governor Baker also said they’re investigating at least eight potential COVID-19 clusters including two on the South Shore.

Sudders says events such as the South Weymouth football camp can have a wide spread impact.

Governor Baker also announced the launch of the #MaskUpMA, campaign which reminds people to wear masks when out in public.

A new mandatory travel order also goes into effect Saturday (8/1) that requires all visitors and residents returning to the state from high-risk areas, including students, to quarantine for 14 days or produce a negative COVID-19 test result from the previous 72 hours before arrival. The fine for violating this order is $500 a day.
