Today in Marshfield, members of the Key Club will be placing flags in front of Town Hall ahead of International Overdose Awareness Day.
The flags are in remembrance of lives lost to overdose.
“At some point in the future, I’d like to put less flags, but it looks like there’s more flags this year,” said Selectman Chair Michael Bradley.
In addition, the Town Hall will be illuminated in purple ahead of a sunrise vigil planned for Saturday.
“We have lost a lot more people in the last year on the South Shore and specifically in Marshfield,” said Vice-Chair Chris Rohland. “We need to continue to bring awareness to this terrible crisis.”
Like Bradley, he hopes one day they won’t have to place as many flags on the town green.
“It’s just terrible, all the potential that’s been lost to this crisis,” added Selectman Steve Darcy.
On Saturday, Marshfield FACTS will host an annual sunrise vigil at the Harbor Park off Joseph Driebeck Way. The vigil will take place at 6 a.m.
