In Marshfield, the Zoning Board of Appeals heard plans for a recreational and medical marijuana dispensary on Enterprise Drive.
Marshfield Town Planner Greg Guimond wants to see more information on potential traffic impacts for the plan.
Health Circle, LLC is proposing a medicinal and recreational marijuana facility to be located at a vacant 14,000 square foot building at 120 Enterprise Drive.
Guimond felt improvements would be needed at the Enterprise Drive/Route 139 intersection, which is currently rated a level service of “F.”
Guimond wanted to see better traffic information from Health Circle to determine the amount they would need to contribute to the town’s improvement fund.
“We have the brewery next door, this particular site does not have a lot of parking on it. That my main concern with this project,” said Guimond. “What I’m looking at is we’re potentially going to have to get a second left-hand turn lane on Enterprise Drive at Route 139. The signals would have to be changed and re-timed.”
He says Modera is opening soon with 250 residential units, potentially a second Modera project is proposed with another 200 units at the top of the hill. In addition to the bank and ballfield uses.
Shaun Kelly from Vanasse & Associates spoke on behalf of Health Circle. He said though there may be more volume when the business opens, it would not be the way it was when the first dispensaries opened in the state.
“People aren’t going to have to leave their town to go to the town three towns over to find a dispensary. There may be two or three in their own town. There are two proposed just along this corridor here within, I would suspect a half-mile within each other,” said Kelly. “During those opening periods, certainly it is busier. We recommend that they work with the police department to implement that plan.”
Additionally, Valerio Romano, an attorney for Health Circle said they would be willing to operate on an appointment-only basis when first opening.
The hearing was continued to September 22.
