The Board of Health returns to the Select Board today (Tuesday) asking for a reconsideration of the vote on the policy for business owners concerning the wearing of masks.
Bobbi Clark has more:
Barry Potvin, who Chairs the Board of Health says there are reopening guidelines for all businesses in town that come from the Governor’s office.
“Those apply to various businesses–they also apply to restaurants and 7-11’s and they included, in the Governor’s order, fines of up to $300 that could be assessed after verbal consultation and re-directions, and written re-directions.”
But, the Board voted to assess fines of only $100 instead of $300 for businesses in the downtown and waterfront district that do not enforce the mandate with customers:
“Because we thought three hundred dollars was excessive. That has to be approved by the Select Board because they, according to the bylaw, have to approve levels of all fines and fees—they decided by a vote of 3 to 2 not to approve that.”
Potvin says that left the Board in an awkward position:
“We’ve been ordered by the state to do one thing and the Select Board doesn’t authorize us to do exactly that.”
The Select Board holds a remote meeting that is broadcast on PACTV this afternoon at 5 PM.
