“Thank you Braintree – I am absolutely thrilled,” said Lisa Fiske Heger, Chair of the Vote Yes for Braintree Schools Committee.
“I really thought it was going to be a lot closer than it is. When the numbers started coming through – I’m ecstatic. Thank you. It takes a village, it takes the whole town. The schools are extremely important to this town.”
The town will receive $31 million dollars from the Massachusetts School Building Authority for the new South Middle School project, which totals $86 million. Question 2 provides $5 million to fix the roofs at the Flaherty, Morrison, Hollis, Liberty, Highlands, and Monatiquot schools. Each were older than 30 years. Question 3 is $1.5 million for a feasibility study for the future of the high school. Question 4 includes $1 million for school security assessment and upgrades.
“I’m absolutely thrilled,” said Jennifer Dolan, Vice-Chair for the Vote Yes for Braintree Schools Committee.
“It’s super exciting to have the support of the town and to know that people believe in our schools and want them to continue to improve.”
The special election was initially set for March, but was postponed to Saturday due to COVID-19.
