The town of Duxbury sits roughly at 8 percent when it comes to the Mass statute requiring municipalities to have 10 percent or more affordable housing units.
Chapter 40B was created back in 1969 to help create more affordable housing by allowing developers to bypass certain zoning regulations if at least 20 percent of units are deemed affordable.
The Duxbury Affordable Housing Trust voted to issue a letter of support at this week’s meeting to build 20 town house style units on Railroad Ave of which 30 percent would be deemed affordable.
Affordable housing trust Chair Dianne Bartlett and member Stephen Dubuque say the location of the development will fit in nicely in town.
The development would sit in three buildings on 2 acres on Railroad Ave and would be priced roughly at $500,000 to $600,000 and 6 units would be priced at market value for affordable housing.
