A 25-year-old man from Plymouth is set to be arraigned on charges after a police-involved shooting at the Kingston Collection.
Kingston Police say Alexander Bakutis was wounded Tuesday after he allegedly threatened officers with a large knife.
Police Chief Maurice Splaine says around 2:45 a.m., they received a 9-1-1 call from a security guard at the Collection. A man in his 20’s brandished a knife and ordered the guard out of a vehicle.
Officers arrived on scene and found Bakutis by the old Sears parking lot. He ignored police commands, and threatened officers with a knife by his hip. The officers tried to de-escalate the situation, but began to fear for their safety and drew their firearms.
Bakutis was shot once in the shoulder and was transported to a local hospital. He was then med-flighted to a Boston hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The officer involved was identified as a 15-year veteran of the department and was taken to the hospital as a precaution. He was not injured and will be on administrative leave pending the investigation.
Bakutis is expected to be arraigned remotely at Plymouth District Court on three counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.
The incident is under investigation by State Police detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.
