Norfolk County: Patrick McDermott Wins Primary Election in Race for Sheriff

Three Democrats were running for Norfolk County Sheriff, in the Primary Election, to fill the last 2 years of a former Sheriff Mike Bellotti’s seat. 

Patrick McDermott, James Coughlin and William Phelan, were all vying for the seat.

McDermott, is currently the Norfolk County Register of Probate, Coughlin, retired from the Mass State Police as a Detective/Captain after 29 years, and Phelan, served several terms as the Mayor of Quincy.  

Patrick McDermott will face Gerry McDermott, the Republican incumbent, in the November election. 

Unofficial Results from Associated Press thus far:

Patrick McDermott 44,535 – 35 percent

William Phelan 43,943 – 34 percent

James Coughlin 39,692 – 31 percent
