Norwell: Police Department and Schools Working to Fix Traffic Backups by Vinal School

by | Sep 17, 2020 | News

School is back in session in Norwell, but the town is working to address traffic issues at the Vinal School.

Town Administrator Peter Morin says gridlock was an issue along Old Oaken Bucket Road.

He says the schools and police department are working on ways to alleviate the situation.

“They’ll be working on addressing the immediate problem of drop off and pickup, tomorrow and until it gets solved,” said Morin. “It’s typically a problem at the beginning of every school year, it seems more pronounced this year for various reasons.”

Other than that, there were no incidents for the first day of school.

“We’ve asked the parents that are involved in that in the future to be patient, and to follow the guidance of the schools as to the procedures and routes that you’re supposed to take in dropping your kids off.”

A resident asked the Board if it would be possible to lower the speed limit along the entirety of Old Oaken Bucket Road, where speeding vehicles are also a concern. The Selectmen plan on having the Traffic Study Committee join a future meeting.
