A Plymouth man was arraigned on charges after a police-involved shooting in Kingston.
Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz says 25-year-old Alexander Bakutis was arraigned at Plymouth District Court on three counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.
He was ordered to undergo a criminal responsibility and competency evaluation in Bridgewater. Bakutis will be held without bail until that evaluation is completed.
Police Chief Maurice Splaine says around 2:45 Tuesday morning, they received a 9-1-1 call from a security guard at the Kingston Collection. A man in his 20’s brandished a knife and ordered the guard out of a vehicle. The guard drove away and called police.
Officers arrived on scene and found Bakutis on foot by the old Sears parking lot. He ignored police commands, and was allegedly carrying a knife in a sheath by his waist.
He charged toward a police officer, who discharged his taser at Bakutis. The taser was ineffective, and the officer discharged his firearm.
Bakutis was shot once in the shoulder and was transported to a local hospital. He was then med-flighted to a Boston hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The officer involved was identified as a 15-year veteran of the department and was taken to the hospital as a precaution. He was not injured and will be on administrative leave pending the investigation.
Bakutis is due back in court on October 13.
