In Plymouth today, at the site of the 9/11 memorial, a ceremony took place in remembrance of the single deadliest terror attack in history, an attack resulting in almost 3,000 fatalities
WATD’s Bobbi Clark files this report:
An assembly of police and firemen stood at attention under a huge American flag waving in the gentle breeze high over Spooner Street, site of the town’s 9/11 memorial. Representative Kathy LaNatra was one of the speakers. But she chose to use the words of her husband Michael a New York Police Detective who was one of the rescue workers at the horrific scene that day.
“I can still remember walking into ground zero. I can still remember walking into powder and ash as if it were the snowy winter months. I still remember stepping over body parts. I still remember the smell of burnt bodies. I still remember working straight through the next few days and weeks with only four hours of sleep and rest in between as we searched for survivors.”
Michael LaNatra is currently an officer with the Kingston Police force.
