In Plymouth, the Board of Health takes up the issue of those who gather in public places and do not wear masks and do not practice social distancing, for example at the town’s popular skate park.
WATD’s Bobbi Clark has more:
Public Health Director Karen Keane recently visited the skate park:
“I saw some people with masks on and I saw some people without masks on. The people without masks on were socially distancing. However, and I think there’s something important that people have to remember, if you can be outside and you can be socially distant, which means that you are at least 6ft away from the next person, you can remove your mask, with the exception of the downtown area which is a mask mandatory zone.”
So what option does the town have if people gather without mask and are not social distancing?
“The Board of Health, working with the Department of Public Health, follows a process where we issue a warning and we educate. And that’s what the Department of Public Health has been doing at the skate park. We’ve been going there in person. We’re talking to people. We’re trying to educate them on the importance of wearing a mask and using social distancing. If we continue to see that this is not being followed, we have the authority to close the skate park because we cannot have people gathering in an unsafe environment.”
