The group FRRACS or Fore River Residents Against the Compressor Station held a protesting parade this week because the new compressor station will start releasing methane during testing.
WATD’s David Cedrone has more:
The group FRRACS held a parade and stand out at the Fore River Bridge in protest of the company Enbridge owner of the compressor station that plans to release natural gas in an event called venting.
Weymouth Mayor Bob Heldlund told residents it’s not unusual for venting to occur and should not alarm residents.
FRRACS president Alice Arena says the venting is a massive release of natural gas with toxic consequences. Arena also calls the fossil industry lawless as she says nothing can stop the project from moving forward.
It’s now September and back in June both Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey wrote to federal regulators asking to halt the construction after a federal court vacated the compressor’s air permit, but the work has not stopped.
Enbridge began construction on the compressor station back in December and planned on opening it by the end of this year.
