Duxbury Police said a faulty headlight led to an arrest and the recovery of stolen firearms.
Police Chief Stephen McDonald says on Sunday evening, Sergeant Andrew Homestead spotted a vehicle driving on Tremont Street with a headlight out. The vehicle was stopped.
Police learned that the driver of the vehicle — a juvenile from Randolph – had a suspended license.
Passenger 19-year-old William O’Brien of Manchester-by-the-Sea was determined to be the owner of the vehicle. The vehicle was unregistered and police called for a tow truck.
Officers Marc Maffeo and Cameron Daley responded to the scene, and noticed O’Brien acting suspiciously. They said he was reaching for a backpack. He was ordered out of the car, and police say they found a loaded handgun. The gun was reported stolen out of Tewksbury.
Another loaded handgun was found in his pants. Police say that gun was reported stolen out of Mississippi.
O’Brien was arrested and arraigned at Plymouth District Court on charges that include unlawful carrying of a firearm, ammunition, and motor vehicle charges.
Police are continuing to investigate the weapons and other evidence in the cars, including stolen ID cards.
