The town of Norwell is asking Governor Baker to reconsider cutting $50,000 in funds that help keep the North River preserved.
WATD’s David Cedrone has the story:
Throughout the COVID-19 crisis many municipalities have been hit financially both on the local and state level.
The state cut funds to Norwell that help manage the North River and without the money the rivers ecosystem could be affected.
The North River is seeing erosion from boat waves which could potentially completely change the way the river looks and could destroy the natural ecosystem.
Norwell has lost $50,000 for management of the North River. Norwell Town Manager Peter Morin says the North River is the only protected river statewide.
Norwell resident Timothy Timmermann uses the North River often and says the funds are necessary to keep the rivers ecosystem in place.
Norwell expects to hear back from the Governor’s office this week to see if the $50,000 for the North River will be restored.
