In Plymouth, early vote counting is in effect, it began at Memorial Hall yesterday. In an unprecedented move by Massachusetts Secretary of State William Galvin, early vote counting is an option allowed this year.
Bobbi Clark has more:
Ballots are being delivered to the Blue Room at Memorial Hall according to Town Clerk Pearl Sears:
“We’re starting with precincts 1,2, and 3, as they finish those precincts we’ll bring over more ballots. All the ballots are being transferred in locked cases and the locks have numbers. They arrive there, they write down the numbers and they’ll have numbers leaving as well so there’s always going to be a double check. They’ll be able to see that nobody opened the ballot box in between.”
So when will the votes be counted?
“We’re not running any election totals until after the polls close on November 3rd.”
The process is being observed:
“We invited the Democratic, Republican Town Committee. We also invited the press and we invited the League of Women Voters.”
And one of the first observers on Monday morning was Democratic Town Committee Attorney William Graham:
“The first ballot was cast today and entered into the machine about 8:30 today which is kind of an exciting event for the Town of Plymouth. So this’ll be the first day of the entering into the machine to be counted for the early voting process.”
