A Rockland man was taken into custody after an officer reportedly saw him breaking into a vehicle.
Police Chief John Llewellyn says that at approximately 2:10 a.m. Wednesday (10/21) he was patrolling along Icehouse Lane after more than 60 recent car breaks were reported in the area.
At one point the officer observed a man dressed in all black with a hood over his head leaning into the driver’s side door of a vehicle parked in a driveway.
The patrol car’s headlight illuminated the suspect and he was identified as 33-year-old Mark Gallagher.
Gallagher then attempted to flee the scene even after the officer turned out the cruiser lights and yelled “Police Stop.”
He jumped a metal fence but was caught in a backyard after he was unable to jump over a wooden fence and fell to the ground.
Gallagher was then arrested on charges of B&E Vehicle during the Night time for Felony and Receiving Stolen Property.
