The Hybrid learning model will be continuing in Weymouth.
Superintendent Jennifer Curtis-Whipple released a statement Friday after the district announced Thursday and last week that two students had tested positive for COVID-19.
Curtis-Whipple says the “students are currently self-isolating in accordance with Massachusetts Department of Public Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention protocols. Neither of the students were in school while displaying symptoms of COVID-19.”
Those considered close contacts to the positive cases have been contacted by a health official about the need to self-quarantine and Curtis-Whipple says that if you weren’t contacted by a health official about the need to self-quarantine, you are not considered a close contact.
She also says that it’s believed “that the recent uptick in positive cases in Weymouth is the result of community spread, including some cases that were identified within youth sports programs in town, which are unaffiliated with the district.”
Athletic practices on Thursday and Friday were postponed but all scheduled games will continue to go on as planned and practices will resume on Monday.
Weymouth was designated a “red” high risk community for COVID-19 on Wednesday by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
