In Plymouth, two new sources of income were established in town last year. One is a community impact fee of 3% on Airbnb’s or other short term rentals, the other is a tax on the sale of marijuana
Bobbi Clark reports:
Finance Director Lynne Barrett says regarding the community impact fee on Airbnb’s the town has received five quarterly payments so far…
“…and we’ve received a total of $53,498.69. The legislature requires that at least 35 percent of that fee needs to be tucked away into a community impact fee fund for affordable housing and infrastructure.”
And the town adopted a tax on the sale of marijuana:
“It was a 3% local excise tax for cannabis. We did receive a payment which represented 3% of the sales and that amount was $38,679. So that was fiscal 20 payment. And then since then, September, would be our next quarter payment, so that was for sales June through August of 2020, and that payment is $67,023.55.”
