Hingham Police say an early-morning pursuit led to numerous drug and alcohol charges for a Roslindale man.
Sergeant Steven Dearth says 34-year-old Joshua Johnson was arrested early Tuesday morning.
Around 2:30 a.m. an officer noticed a vehicle had driven off Charles Street. The driver was alone, not wearing pants, and holding a lighter.
The driver accelerated, and the officer jumped out of the way. Another officer located the vehicle on Route 228, but the pursuit was called off for safety reasons.
Police saw what appeared to be fire coming from under the vehicle, and officers were allowed to continue pursuit.
The vehicle continued into Hull, with a front tire coming off and almost striking a Hingham cruiser. The car continued driving on the front rim until reaching Pemberton Point.
The car drove off the rocky road, but swerved to avoid the ocean. Eventually it became stuck on the rocks.
Police say the driver was holding a crack pipe in one hand and a beer in the other. Hull police assisted in the arrest without further incident. Officers located a BB gun and several empty whiskey bottles in the center console.
Johnson was charged with 11 counts that include Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol and Drugs, Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Property Damage, and Unlicensed Operation.
He had a default warrant for Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon.
Johnson was arraigned at Brockton District Court due to the temporary closure of Hingham District Court. His bail was revoked on several open cases and he was held without bail.
