A Holbrook man is facing charges following a traffic stop in Quincy.
Massachusetts State Police say that at approximately 4 a.m. Sunday a Trooper was patrolling I-93 when he saw a red Nissan Maxima being operated erratically and failing to stay within any single lane.
The trooper stopped the Nissan prior to Exit 6, then approached the vehicle informed the driver, 19-year-old Nick Cornay why he was pulled over.
He then took Cornay’s license and registration then returned to his cruiser to conduct an electronic Registry of Motor Vehicles inquiry where he discovered that Cornay’s driver’s license was suspended.
Cornay was removed from the vehicle and placed under arrest and conducted a search of the vehicle.
The trooper found a loaded Ruger 9 mm pistol on the rear floor area behind the driver’s seat.
Cornay does not have a license to carry firearms.
It was also discovered that the serial number on the Ruger was altered, making it difficult to be read, but it was eventually determined that the gun was reported stolen.
The search also uncovered large amounts of items containing marijuana in the vehicle along with $1000 in cash.
Bail for Cornay was set at $20,000 and he was scheduled for arraignment at Quincy District Court on charges of Possession of a Firearm; Carrying a Loaded Firearm; Possession of a Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number; Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License; Receiving Stolen Property under $1200; and Marked Lanes Violation.
