A Middleboro man is being charged with two counts of murder after two people were found dead at a home on Highland Street.
Police Chief Joseph Perkins says 21-year-old Ryan True, of 3 Highland Street, was arrested after a brief investigation.
Around 6:30 Thursday morning, police conducted a well-being check at 3 Highland Street after two people did not show up for work.
“As a result of the well-being check, two individuals, a male and a female, were discovered deceased inside the home,” said Perkins. “At this time, we are withholding the names of the victims pending positive identification and family notification.”
Police made contact with True away from the scene, and he was arrested. Perkins says True is related to the victims, but did not specify during a Thursday press conference.
He commended his officers for quickly resolving the situation.
“Being an officer on the shift being called to possibly go to help someone, to check on their well-being, and walking into a situation like that is very troublesome and traumatic for the officers themselves,” said Perkins.
Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz expects True will be arraigned on charges either Thursday or Friday.
“Depending on when they can get into court as it pertains to the issues we’re dealing with COVID right now. Hopefully that will be today, rather than tomorrow. I want to, like the Chief said, I would commend the Middleboro Police, the State Police who are here in force doing their normal investigation,” said Cruz. “That’s part and parcel as to why we’re in a position where we don’t have any answers as of yet, because we have a job to do. It’s an ongoing job that must be done thoroughly and appropriately.”
