With COVID-19 precautions in place, the Norwell Fire Department is hosting their annual collection drive to benefit Toys for Tots.
Firefighter/Paramedic Mike Teague says they have a festive collection pod in front of the station at 300 Washington Street.
“This year we found ourselves in a jam. Because of the coronavirus, we couldn’t let people in the station anymore,” said Teague. “We had to move our storage pod to the front parking lot. We tried to decorate it and make it as festive as possible, make it inviting, and have people be part of the charity we’ve been supporting for years.”
Numerous firefighters got together to decorate the pod. Deputy Chief Dave Kean brought inflatable decorations that include a tree, reindeer, and a snowman. The donations are contact-free. People can leave a new, unwrapped gift in the pod.
They’re collecting donations at the station from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on December 20th.
“Contributions have been better than expected. We figured some people would be a little leery or skeptical about doing it,” said Teague. “As usual, everyone is coming through and filling that pod up.”
