In Plymouth, Town Manager Melissa Arrighi issued a clarification about the undercover monitoring of Selectman Cavacco’s emails that began last summer and continued until recently. Arrighi says this clarification is an important one because of false information that is circulating.
Bobbi Clark has more:
The notion that Town Manager Arrighi was involved in screening of all Selectman Cavacco’s emails is not correct. Arrighi says she needed to see emails that were potentially interfering with an employee’s work place or work tasks….
“…because the employees were coming to me and they were confused. Whose direction should they follow? I needed to intercede on that and protect them.”
What about if a resident emails a selectman directly to their selectman account?
“I did not see that. Now formal responses that came from a selectman to a resident from their selectman’s account, which of course is public, I would see. But, I would dismiss those. That wasn’t the problem that I was trying to resolve. The issue stemmed around direct contact between the selectman and the employee.”
But in the case of a selectman responding from their town Selectman’s email account…..
“I would see that response. I would not see any responses or inquiries that went between private email accounts of selectmen and residents.”
So, if not related to daily activities concerning an employees’ job….
“It was irrelevant. It didn’t mean anything, it didn’t’ go anywhere.”
Town Manager Arrighi has a long history with the town.
“I hope I’ve earned the confidence of the people in Plymouth. I have been with you for 16 years. And, if you ever hear something, read something, or question something that I have done—if you have any doubts at all, you reach out to me directly. I will be here for you and I will talk to you about it.”
