A Whitman man was taken into custody following a traffic stop in Brockton.
Massachusetts State Police say that shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday a Trooper saw a red Mitsubishi SUV driving on Pleasant St. with no headlights or taillights on.
The trooper pulled the vehicle over and spoke with the driver, 33-year-old Miguel Santiago, before conducting an RMV inquiry which revealed that Santiago’s driver’s license was suspended and that he had an active warrant for his arrest issued by Brockton District Court.
Santiago was placed under arrest and troopers began a search of the vehicle and immediately found $4000 in cash along with multiple cell phones and other items they suspected could have been used in the sale or transport of illegal narcotics.
Troopers also noticed that areas inside the car may have been tampered with and, after inspecting those areas, found a large amount of pills suspected to contain fentanyl which had a combined weight of 112 grams.
The search also uncovered a loaded Glock 9 mm firearm which had been reported stolen in Rhode Island approximately five years ago.
State Police say Santiago does not possess a license to carry firearms. He was released after posting a $2,600 bail and was scheduled to appear at Brockton District Court on charges of Illegal Possession of a Firearm; Possession of a Firearm without FID Card; Possession of Ammunition without FID Card; Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device; Improper Storage of a Firearm; Receiving Stolen Property -$1200; Trafficking in Fentanyl; Possession of a Firearm while in Commission of a Felony; Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License; and Motor Vehicle Equipment Violation.
