Middlelboro firefighters were called to the scene of an early morning fire.
Chief Lance Benjamino says that at approximately 6:30 a.m. Wednesday they responded to a call for a house fire at 530 Wareham St.
Crews arrived on scene to find heavy smoke and flames showing from the first floor, second floor and attic.
Benjamino says crews conducted “an aggressive interior attack inside the home, which allowed them to limit the spread of the fire and minimize damage to the house.”
They were able to clear the scene by around 8:30 a.m.
The home’s occupants were able to get out of the house before first responders arrived and no injuries were reported.
However, the home sustained approximately $100,000 in fire, heat, smoke and water damage with significant damage to the front of the first floor, second floor and attic.
The residents were displaced as a result of the incident and are being assisted by family members.
Benjamino says it’s believed that the fire started in the chimney on the first floor and is not believed to be suspicious at this time, but the cause remains under investigation.
