Marshfield police are investigating a fatal accident involving a pedestrian on Ocean Street.
Police Lieutenant Arthur Shaw says they received a number of 911 calls reporting the accident around 8:40 Saturday night.
“The party was transported to South Shore Hospital, they were transported right after the accident,” said Shaw. “We got a call around 12:30 that they were medflighted from South Shore to Brigham and Women’s Hospital.”
He says neighbors and the operator of the vehicle immediately rendered aid to the victim, who was only identified as a Marshfield resident. First responders quickly arrived on scene.
Shaw says early investigation shows the victim was walking in the roadway along a dark stretch.
It’s not expected that charges will be filed.
“This is just a tragic accident for everybody involved,” said Shaw. “We’re waiting on the accident reconstruction, but it doesn’t appear that there was anything the operator could have done to avoid it at this point.”
Marshfield Police officers on scene conducted the investigation, along with the State Police Crash Reconstruction unit. Photos were taken by the Sheriff’s Department.
Shaw says while there are some streetlights, it is a dark area in town. He says fatal accidents in that area are not common.
