Officials in Marshfield approved plans for a drive-up COVID-19 vaccination site at the fairgrounds.
Town Administrator Michael Maresco says the site could be ready in 10 days pending final approval. They’re hoping to vaccinate up to 47,000 people by June with the Pfizer vaccine.
Residents can sign up for appointments or volunteer through the Marshfield town website.
“We’ll have four tents, we’ll be able to do four cars at a time,” said Maresco.
“Once people get their shots, there’s a designated waiting area.”
He says staff will monitor people after they receive the vaccine, and paramedics from the Fire Department will be on standby. People will receive a card letting them know when they can receive the second dose of the vaccine.
Maresco says starting out, it will be on an appointment-only basis. The expansion depends on supply and the amount of volunteers.
“The old saying is that it’s going to take more than a village to get everyone inoculated,” said Maresco. “Not only in our town, but in other towns. The more people we get inoculated the quicker we can get back to some type of normalcy pre-COVID-19.”
The Selectmen unanimously approved plans for the site at the South River Street Entrance, along with a motion to be inclusive to surrounding towns if possible.
“You can go onto our website, we have the Medical Reserve Corps application there, it tells you all about it,” said Maresco. “We’re in the Duxbury Bay area region, that takes in Marshfield, Pembroke, Hanson and a number of communities.”
