In Plymouth, today, the DPW will hold a hearing about takings of certain sections of the properties near the proposed new Brook Road Bridge.
Brook Road was for a long time the road from Plymouth to Manomet, it was replaced by State Road. Not everyone living on the picturesque old road is happy about a new bridge.
DPW Director Jonathan Beder:
“It’s a one-way bridge, Brook Road is a two-way street. We are looking to replace the bridge with a two-lane bridge, with a sidewalk, and that’s a requirement of MassDOT, We have a five hundred thousand dollar grant from MassDOT. We received an extension on that grant until June of ’22.”

Beder says there’s been a lot of discussion on easements concerning the abutters and most of the abutting homeowners are okay with the project:
“4 out of 7 of them actually, and they are on board.”
But, not on board are some other residents and they’ve contacted Selectman Betty Cavacco:
“The plans just don’t suit the neighborhood and the neighbors are pretty upset about it.”
The Brook Road bridge replacement project went before Town Meeting last August and it failed, but, Beder says, it’s scheduled again for April Town Meeting:
“We are requesting that Town Meeting appropriate one point seven five million dollars to replace this bridge and it’s a necessity. The town owns the bridge. If we don’t replace the bridge at some point in time it will become a safety issue and we’ll have to close the road.”
