South Shore Hospital is currently experiencing high patient volume, which may mean increased wait time for people who don’t need immediate emergency care.
Public Information Officer Nicole Chryssicas of South Shore Health says even with COVID-19, wait times are typically longer this time of year.
“Our suggestion to patients would be that if you’re experiencing any type of symptoms that are flu-related, or any type of typical emergencies – sprains, strains, or anything that would bring you to a regular emergency room visit – we ask that you use one of our Health Express locations or contact your physician,” said Chryssicas. “If it’s something that is outside of obviously a 911 emergency, where you would be dialing 911 for any kind heart-related emergency or anything that would bring you to the emergency room via ambulance.”
She says that wait times are often shorter at Health Express locations. Practitioners have extensive experience in emergency medicine.
“We’re just asking patients to be patient with us as well. The state has definitely seen volume across the line in hospitals at this time,” said Chryssicas. “I think that while some of the cases are unrelated to COVID, it’s important to be patient with the staff who have been on the front lines with everything going on.”
