Two elderly residents were rescued from a house fire in Middleborough Wednesday night.
Fire Chief Lance Benjamino says the fire took place around 9 p.m. at 2 Montello St.
Crews arrived on scene to find smoke showing from the second floor of the home and determined that the fire was located in the kitchen area of the second floor which they were unable to access due to a “large amount of household items stacked floor to ceiling blocking the entrance.”
Firefighters found two residents on the first floor in a room at the rear of the home and brought them safely outside.
The individuals were treated at the scene before being transported to Morton Hospital as a precaution, but they are expected to make a full recovery.
No firefighters were injured.
The home sustained roughly $50,000 in damage and the home was deemed unsafe for habitation due to a large amount of clutter.
Benjamino says the incident remains under investigation but is not believed to be suspicious at this time.
