Ash Wednesday officially begins the Catholic season of Lent.
However, with the pandemic still ongoing, local churches have made adjustments to allow people to participate in a more socially distant way.
Fr. Stephen Boyle, Pastor of St. Christine’s Catholic Church in Marshfield, tells WATD News they’ve actually taken steps to greatly avoid any potential physical contact when the ashes are administered.
Fr. Boyle says they’ve also been able give ashes to those who may be unable to visit the church at all.
Despite all the challenges this year, Fr. Boyle expressed optimism that things seem to be improving.
The church also held two traditional Ash Wednesday masses at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. with social distance protocols in place.
