A New Hampshire man is facing charges after police say he struck a man with his vehicle and fled the scene.
Braintree Police Chief Mark Dubois says 36-year-old Matthew Simonson is facing charges that include assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and leaving the scene of personal injury.
Tuesday morning around 3:30 a.m., an officer by the South Shore Plaza was flagged down by a motorist.
They told police they saw a hit-an-run in the area, and officers were on the lookout for a matching vehicle.
A vehicle Simonson was driving was located in the Dave and Buster’s parking lot. Police say once he noticed an officer, he fled into the nearby woods.
Braintree and Quincy police responded to the scene and a Randolph K-9 assisted with the search. He was taken into custody a short time later.
The driver Simonson allegedly hit, a 36-year-old from Randolph, said a suspicious vehicle followed him from New Hampshire.
He said he stopped at Five Corners in Braintree – and Simonson tried to enter his vehicle. The victim left his vehicle and attempted to confront Simonson, who struck the vehicle.
They were treated at the scene with non-life-threatening injuries. Simonson is being held without bail.
