In Plymouth, on the same weekend, a year ago, as the super-spreader Biogen medical conference in Boston, County Administrator Frank Basler’s family was having a party—this turned into a super spreader event of its own, resulting in multiple cases of Covid-19. But, in the end, Frank says Covid saved his life.
Bobbi Clark has the story.
Frank Basler’s son Andrew was having a bachelor party in Killington, Vermont. His son-in-law, Elliot, the best man put it together.
“Unfortunately, one of the members that came up from New York City, there were thirteen of us in total, brought Covid up to the group. All 13 of us ended up with Covid. And I ended up in ICU and on a ventilator for 15 days, in ICU for almost 4 weeks, in the hospital for over six weeks.”
During that time Frank had several near death experiences…
“…one of those nights the doctors thought I had an abscess in my body, so they did a bunch of scanning and they found that I had a stomach tumor about the size of a golf ball.
From there, I had a bunch of testing—the great news is that it was removed. I am on chemo now but have a great bill of health now. When it was removed it had already grown to the size of an orange.”
And, Frank says he’s one of the few who can wear a Covid-Saved-My-Life T-shirt…
“…because if it wasn’t for Covid—they never would have done the scan and the stomach tumor wouldn’t have been found because it was a-symptomatic until it could have been too-late.”
All 13 of those who contracted COVID recovered and are doing well.
