A Brockton man and a teenage passenger are facing charges following a traffic stop.
Massachusetts State Police say that at around 2:15 a.m. Monday a trooper observed a gray Kia SUV driving roughly 100 miles per hour on Route 24 South in Bridgewater.
She followed the vehicle then initiated a traffic stop in the area of Exit 20 in Taunton.
Upon approaching the vehicle the trooper observed that the driver, 30-year-old Jon VanRader, was showing signs of impairment.
She also smelled freshly burnt marijuana, and saw a small amount of unburnt marijuana in the center gear shift area, and an open container of alcohol by the passenger’s door.
VanRader was removed from the vehicle and testing determined he was unable to safely drive and he was arrested.
A search of the vehicle found a loaded Caspian Arms .45 caliber pistol under the passenger seat and a computer inquiry revealed that it had been reported stolen in 2007.
The 16-year-old passenger was also arrested.
VanRader is scheduled to be arraigned at Taunton District Court on charges of Possession of a Firearm; Possession of a Firearm with Two Prior Violent/Drug Crimes; Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device; Receiving Stolen Property under $1200; Improper Storage of a Firearm; Possession of Ammunition without FID Card; Operating Under the Influence of Intoxicating Drugs; Marked lanes Violation; and Speeding.
The Juvenile is facing charges including Possession of a Firearm; Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device; Receiving Stolen Property under $1200; Improper Storage of a Firearm; and Possession of Ammunition without FID Card.
