The Brockton Fire Department says quick thinking by employees at a recycling plant kept a fire from extending to the building.
Deputy Fire Chief Scott Albanese says they were called to ECO Recycling Systems, Inc. at 195 Mulberry Street around 8:03 Tuesday morning for reports of a building fire.
“The employees absolutely saved that building,” said Albanese. “They were using a piece of machinery, a loader in there, and it caught on fire. They were able to get it out of the building before it got fully engulfed.”
Employees used fire extinguishers to try to put out the fire on the Bobcat Skid Steer. A loader was used to drag the burning vehicle from the building.
The fire department responded with three ladders and an engine company, and quickly knocked down the blaze.
“They’ll be able to replace the equipment, but they were able to continue their operation throughout the day,” said Albanese. “Our biggest hurdle down there was that the diesel fuel tank on the machine let go, so we had some hazardous materials stuff to deal with as well.”
The fuel spill was contained, and the company called a mitigation company to the scene.
Albanese said there were no injuries.
