The numerical date for Sunday (3/14), 3-1-4, matches the first three numbers the mathematical constant pi and would usually be observed in many schools on the South Shore, the following day but this year things are different.
Liam Griffin, Assistant Principal at the Rogers Middle School in Rockland, tells WATD News that Pi Day is a fun and useful way to bring better understanding to an often challenging topic.
Griffin says that in past years he’s participated in all sorts of Pi Day related activities.
However, he says the time crunch created by COVID just doesn’t allow for those types of activities.
The United States House of Representatives supported the designation of Pi Day in 2009.
