The Marshfield Selectmen approved plans for a drive-in theater to start next month at the fairgrounds. Plans are in the works for a second screen at the site.
The Marshfield Agricultural and Horticultural Society are working with Fiesta Shows to run another drive-in theatre at the Fairgrounds. The Selectmen approved an April 1st opening date, running to October 31st.
Eugene Dean from Fiesta Shows says they’re applying for a permit from the Zoning Board for a second screen.
“The second screen would go to the east of the first screen. Kind of where they stage the demo derby – what I refer to as the pit area during the fairgrounds. The gravel area that continues beyond,” said Dean. “Not going towards South River Street, but actually going the opposite direction of where the screen is now, going towards the back of the grounds. We look to place it there based on being the most minimal impact to abutters, residents, and so forth.”
He says the original movie screen will host about 230 cars. The second screen will have room for up to 275 vehicles.
Town Administrator Michael Maresco says the plans will not interfere with the COVID-19 mass vaccination site at the fairgrounds, which reached 19,211 vaccinations on Saturday.
“It doesn’t interfere with the clinic whatsoever,” said Maresco. “By some strange turn of fate, if they’re able to do the fair, they wouldn’t do the drive-in during the fair. We wouldn’t be able to do the clinic during the fair.”
A decision has not been made on the Marshfield Fair. The 153rd fair was cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
