Duxbury’s football coach has issued a statement regarding reports of offensive remarks used during a football game earlier this month.
David Maimaron apologized on behalf of the staff and players for what he called “insensitive, crass and inappropriate language” used during the March 12th game.
Maimaron went on to call use of the term “careless, unnecessary and most importantly hurtful on its face—inexcusable.”
He says they have been “transparent and cooperative” with administration and that they have taken responsibility for the incident.
Maimaron says that as a special education teacher and a coach, with a multi-racial family, he has a “lengthy record of helping students and athletes of all races, religions and capabilities.”
He also says they “welcome the opportunity to participate in sensitivity and diversity training and look forward to taking the lessons learned to better ourselves and those around us.”
