The Brockton Fire Department says a fire damaged a home at 27 Rockford Street.
Captain Stephen McLean says a resident called to report the fire around 2:16, yesterday afternoon.
“The last couple of days, it’s been extremely dry. That kind of helped accelerate the fire. It was quite a difficult fire,” said McLean. “The crews had a heavy volume of fire when they first arrived. They made quick work of it, it was a quick knockdown. We did have to chase it for a bit, it started to make its way up into the attic space of the home.”
An ambulance from Access Ambulance was on site at the time of the fire, they helped get the occupants out safely.
A working fire assignment was struck, with four engines and two ladder trucks responding to the scene.
“We believe there were four cats. Three of them we have accounted for, there was one we did not,” said McLean. “We’re not sure, we looked through the house extensively. We have not been able to locate it. We’re not sure if the cat ran off on its own, that’s always a possibility.”
There were no other injuries at the scene. There was extensive damage to the kitchen and a breezeway connected to the garage, but the home is not a total loss.
