The Pembroke Fire Department was on the scene of a two-alarm fire this afternoon.
Fire Chief Ken McCormick says they were called to 19 Stetson Ave. for a shed fire just before 2 p.m.
“When we arrived, we had three or four sheds going. The side of this house started due to the heat, and some property on the other side of the fence, so we ended up striking a second alarm immediately, bringing in more help,” said McCormick. “Two of our guys were at the hospital already in the ambulance… We had a quick knockdown, probably about 15 minutes. Halifax came over and helped us out. Then our guys got the other side of the fence to put that fire out. On our second alarm, Rockland comes over with an ambulance to back up the scene.”
McCormick says there are no injuries. The cause of the fire appears to be an outside fire that spread to the sheds and nearby brush. It’s still under investigation.
The home had some heat exposure, but crews were able prevent the fire from spreading. With about 50 feet between homes and open brush space, he says they had to act quickly.
“Any fire within the confines of their property limits, it can get really close to the house. You need 75 feet from the dwelling to burn. This individual didn’t have 75 feet, plus he had a bunch of other things within the yard that were combustibles,” said McCormick. “They become difficult. Then where we’re on the pond, we have to worry about DEP and EPA regulations, things from the fire drifting into the pond, so we have to mitigate that.”
Crews were on scene for an extended period of time checking for hot spots.
