There was an unplanned gas release at the Natural Gas Compressor Station in Weymouth.
The incident took place shortly after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday with a spokesman for station owner Enbridge says that the gas was released “in a controlled manner through the case vent stack, which is designed to safely vent natural gas.”
Alice Arena, of the Fore River Residents Against the Compressor Station, tells WATD News she disputes their description of the incident.
Arena says they are also expressing their concern with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.
The company says local officials were notified and that the “safety of the facility and surrounding area were not impacted by this occurrence.”
