The Bridgewater Police and Fire Departments say an off-duty Bridgewater K9 officer pulled a man from a burning vehicle after a crash.
Bridgewater Police Chief Christopher Delmonte and Acting Fire Chief Michael MacDermott say a 34-year-old John McClellan, of Ware, suffered serious injuries in the crash.
Last night around 8:30, multiple 9-1-1 calls reported the crash into the woods, with the vehicle on fire on Forest Street.
Off-duty Bridgewater K9 officer Christopher Rondeau witnessed the crash and pulled McClellan away from the fire. He rendered first aid with Officer Theo Barbetto.
Firefighters extinguished the flames from 2014 Jeep Cherokee which had spread to nearby brush and trees.
McClellan was taken to Scotland Field, and was medflighted to a Boston Hospital.
Early investigation shows the vehicle was driving at a high rate of speed and left the roadway before striking multiple trees. The crash remains under investigation.
