A special playground for toddlers in Rexhame Beach, in memory of a much-loved son, is the new gathering place for people looking to get outside and have some socially-distanced fun.
Matty K’s 7 Seas Playground is holding fundraising events to expand the pirate-themed playground.
“We put on some music, I teach a few a line dance lessons. We just dance in an area that we can see the playground, we can feel the energy,” said Maureen Godding. “We have beautiful sights to look at – and we just let it fly.”
Godding teaches classes, the next one is Saturday, May 1 at 1:00 p.m. at Rexhame. The parking lot dance parties are events that can’t be missed.
“We’re going to be trekking down there, we have a great sound system. This is to continue to raise funds for the playground,” said Godding. “Each year we look to do something a little bigger, a little better, just a little enhancement.”
The pirate-themed playground is named in honor of Maureen’s son, Matt Kelly, who passed away five years ago.
“This year we have two little pieces going in, a little musical wind chime and a drum. We donated a bike rack down at the walking path,” said Godding. “As it continues, we try to enhance it every season.
