Crews in Holbrook helped rescue a family from a coyote encounter.
Holbrook Police say that at approximately 11:40 a.m. Thursday, the Department of Public Works received a call from a woman in the Holbrook Town Forest who was walking with her two children when she was trapped on a walking trail by a large coyote.
The Holbrook Regional Emergency Communications Center spoke with the mother who said that the coyote was pacing back and forth for some time nearby.
Dispatchers relayed this information to Holbrook Police, and officers searched the woods in the area of Park Dr.
Abington Animal Control also assisted as it was believed the coyote was likely protecting a den, which is common this time of year.
Responders had a hard time finding the family until the mother emailed her location to dispatchers who then shared the coordinates and relayed their location based on area landmarks.
The Police Department Drone was able to locate the family near power lines using the drone’s thermal imaging camera and information provided by dispatchers who remained on the phone with the mother until officers made contact with her and the two children.
Police say they were safely escorted back to their car without any injuries.
