Two firefighters and a resident were injured after a three-alarm fire in Rockland.
Fire Chief Scott Duffey says multiple 911 calls reported the fire at 91 Pacific Street Saturday afternoon.
“Crews had a large smoke plume in the distance, we immediately started the mutual aid and went to a working fire en route and arrived on scene,” said Duffey. “I arrived shortly after, found heavy fire issuing from the front porches extending into the interior of the building on floors two, three, and up into the attic area.”
More than 10 communities responded to the scene. Duffey says this was a difficult fire due to the balloon-frame construction of the triple-decker home, which was built in the 1900’s.
“During the initial attack of the fire, we were notified of one injured resident. That resident has been transported with non-life-threatening injuries to the South Shore Hospital. Also during the initial attacks, one firefighter was injured. That too, non-life-threatening injuries, and he was transported to South Shore Hospital,” said Duffey. “A subsequent firefighter has been transported to the hospital…with non-life-threatening injuries.”
Crews were on scene for an extended period of time chasing pockets of fire near the roof.
The Red Cross responded to the scene to help families who were displaced. The cause of the fire is under investigation with assistance from the State Fire Marshall’s Office.
